Zhang Yuhui

Zhang Yuhui is currently a gaohu musician with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. She began her huqin training at the young age of six. Between 2002 and 2006, she was a professional musician with the Mudanjiang Pingju Troupe of Heilongjiang Province, which made her the youngest erhu musician there. She entered the Shenyang Conservatory of Music in 2006, where she learned the erhu and gaohu under Professor Yin Zaishen. She graduated in 2010 cum laude and furthered her training at the HKCO Orchestral Academy and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

Zhang won the Class One Award -Youth Erhu Section at the Oriental Star Competition which was part of the All China Culture Week for Youth and Children in 2004. Then in 2009, she won the Gold Award - Youth Erhu Group A, at the Liaoning Ethnic Instrumental Music Showcase (Specialism Section). While studying at the Shenyang Conservatory, she was awarded the title “Outstanding Undergraduate” by the City of Shenyang on several occasions, a Class One Scholarship from the Conservatory, and the accolade as a “Three Good Student”, i.e., good in study, morality and health. She was the Erhu Principal of the Academy Youth Chinese Orchestra, and won critical acclaim with her solo performance at the Conservatory’s Outstanding Specialism Students Concert. She also recorded for a Chinese music programme for CCTV, and performed on several occasions with the Shenyang Chinese Orchestra, Qianjin Song and Dance Troupe of the Shenyang Military Area Command of the Political Department, and on Liaoning Radio and Television.
