Liu Hai

Suona virtuoso of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Liu joined the HKCO in 2006. He first received his training under the famous suona virtuoso, Wang Gaolin, and graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music where he was trained by Guo Yazhi. He was coached in the suona by Liu Bingchen, Hu Haiquan, Hu Zhihou, Chen Jiaqi, Niu Jiandang, Shi Haibin, Wang Qingzong et al. 


Liu joined the China Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra in 2001. In 2003, he was a member of the orchestra of the Central Ballet on its touring performances of Raise the Red Lantern to the UK and France. He was also in the orchestra during the recording session of its CD. After joining the HKCO, he has continually honed his performance techniques, and in 2009, went to Jilin in China to receive coaching in suona playing of the northeastern region from Wang Qingzhong. Liu has performed in the concerts "Rising Stars of HKCO' and 'Gao Shan & Liu Jai' - HKCO4U series. Apart from performing, Liu is also actively teaching. He is currently a suona instructor at the HKCO Instrumental Class and an instructor at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
